ENVI and IDL by ITT VIS

ENVI and IDL Software

Once the hyperspectral image data from an ITRES imaging sensor has undergone standard processing (radiometric/geometric correction, orthocorrection) using ITRES proprietary software, further image analysis may be performed using software from a variety of commercial vendors. For over 12 years we've recommended the use of ENVI and IDL, manufactured by ITT Visual Information Solutions.

ENVI Sensor Support and Pre-Processing

ENVI supports the .pix (Band Interleaved by Pixel) format of the data from all ITRES imaging sensors (CASI, SASI, MASI, TABI, and TASI). ENVI's automated pre-processing tools allow you to quickly and easily prepare your imagery for viewing or additional analysis.

Among other tasks that can be performed on image data from an ITRES sensor, ENVI allows you to:

  • Register two or more images
  • Create vector overlays
  • Identify regions of interest
  • Resize, rotate, or convert the data type
  • Perform quick and easy image enhancements

 ENVI Spectral Analysis Tools

Getting the most from the wealth of accurate spectral information inherent in ITRES hyperspectral imager data sometimes requires more intensive image spectral analysis.

 

Spectral analysis allows you to use pixel responses measured at different wavelengths to obtain information about the materials within each pixel of a hyperspectral ITRES dataset. ENVI has very advanced yet easy-to-use spectral analysis tools that give you access to established, scientific mapping methods for hyperspectral image analysis. ENVI's spectral analysis tools allow you to:

 

  • Perform spectral discrimination between cover types based on the detailed spectral profiles generated from ITRES hyperspectral imagery
  • Classify imagery using supervised and unsupervised methods
  • Identify spectral signatures using robust libraries

Featuring a built-in library of math, statistics, image processing, and signal processing routines, IDL can be used to develop stand-alone image analysis and data manipulation algorithms, routines, or interfaces. IDL can also be used to customize and add user-defined functionality to the ENVI image analysis software.
